A couple of months ago I installed the POP3 connector for SBS 4.5. The server had two NIC's, one internal and one external to an ADSL modem, and until now everything worked fine.
Now I have removed one NIC (the external) and I have installed a ADSL router with a built-in firewall.
Everything works except the POP3 connector. I can see that the problem is with the SMTP protocol. When I try to telnet the SMTP port of the server I get immediately a 'Connection lost' error. When I stop the IMC I get a 'Connect failed' (which is normal...)
I tried to reinstall the IMC and the POP3 connector, I installed SP4 (for Exchange) but nothing helps. I'm really desperate...
I did the same thing in a virtual PC (vmWare) with the same router and everything works. I'm pretty sure all the settings are the same...

MarcVS,

I have seen this problem before. Try disabling reverse-dns lookups (theres a registry key to do this). Also the SMTP connector stores information such as NIC reference data etc. Try removing the SMTP connector and re-installing it again. Note, the SMTP connector will need a clean removal or a re-install will keep the same information!

Another thing to try is, change the details of the current SMTP connector so that it is "broken" and then install a second SMTP connector with the original configuration.

Cheers, Andy.

another option may be the setup of your router, on the configuration for the port forwarding ensure that action matched=forward and not drop

I already removed the IMC and reinstalled it, no change...
