OK, Here is another strange problem. I have a pc that connects to the net fine. It receives mail with no problem. It won't send mail at all. I have checked all of the SMTP setting. I've tried using Outlook, OE, and Netscape and receive the same error on all 3 clients. I really think it's an XP setting somewhere, but I have no idea where. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"and receive the same error on all 3 clients" .....

..... and the error message is ??????

Oops, Sorry.
Error: "The SMTP server Can not be found."

What do you have set as your smtp server? Can you ping the server? What happens when you try to telnet to the server on port 25? Does the server name resolve correctly in DNS?

Chris.

I can ping the server, and DNS resolves the name with no problem. I haven't tried telnet, but I will. Thanks.

I can telnet to the server with no problem. I was able to recreate the exact error. It seems like the SMTP server is not accurate in the client. Here's the error.

Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to connect to SMTP server %S. The server may be down or may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your Mail/News account settings are correct and try again.

Not sure if it's related to your issue, but I have seen similar issues with Windows XP Outlook.

I ended up resolving this by deleting the Mail Profile that Outlook created, then recreating it.

-Control Panel
-Mail
-Profiles
-Show Profiles
-Remove
-then Add

Doing this reset the Outlook Shortcuts back to default, but (fortunately) it retained the overall Outlook settings.

Then, I was able to send/receive without incidence.

Tried that for Outlook, but no luck. The odd thing is that SMTP message won't go out through Outlook, Netscape, or Mozilla.

You may need to enable the "Outbound SMTP Authentication" setting for that email address. This is done in Outlook.

Sorry to ask an obvious question, but have you inquired with your ISP and/or hosting company about this issue? This is usually a simple resolve; why not start with them.

Let us know!

I tried my ISP, Earthlink. They told me it had to be something on my pc. That was about a month ago. I've since switched ISP's and I'm still having the problem. I've checked the SMTP auth, and that's not the problem. Does anyone know of a free app or demo, that can sniff packets as they are coming and going from my pc. I thought that might shed some light on where it's stopping. Thanks.
