Smart Reporting Technology

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if anyone has implemented or have experience in regarding to CR new product Smart Reporting Technology.
How does Smart Reporting Technology work?
Are the reports still create in CR Designer?
As a CR developer, do you have to learn HTML or other language to implement this technology?
Your input is greatly appreciated.

Smart Reporting Technology is part of Crystal Enterprise, Crystal Reports "Big Brother". It uses CSP (Crystal Server Pages), a variant of ASP.

There is a large amount of info on the Crystal Decisions web site about Crystal Enterprise. Additionally, if you purchase CR 8.5 (Developer or Pro only, not the Standard edition), you get a free 5 user version of Crystal Enterprise.

I've had a play with the Report Application Server that implements "Smart reporting".
We were able to successful install a "blank" report into Crystal Enterprise and then use a web browser to create a custom report on the fly, so in that sense it's pretty smart.

Requirements for the report were to have a blank report, select a data source and table joins, have no sections, formulas or fields in the report.

On Crystal Enterprise as well as "View" and "Schedule" against a report, you now have "Modify". If you havent' seen it, think of a browser presenting the report expert, so some control but not as thorough as the full report designer.

For ad-hoc reports from users it could be pretty useful. But it does require CE Pro, so make sure youv'e got a big budget. It may be cheaper to buy your user a full copy of Crystal reports. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear
