I have a small network with single win2000 server behind a DSL Router and modem with a static IP. The network itself is peer-to-peer with the server used for file sharing and terminal services, used by a remote location. No AD is setup.

I just got a new box with win2000 Small Business Server. This box will be used for a new client/server .net app I am writing. I would like to use the new server for AD and sqlserver app and it should have enough power.

What I need is advise on how to set this thing as a development server. I need to test this all out and do a proof of concept on the app and be able to go live with the minimum of hassle when I am done, there is only one of me and downtime is a issue. The old server will likely be relegated to file sharing and NAVCE. My network now uses a 192.168.x.x scheme. If I pick a different one will it be a problem to change it back? Should I pick a similar one? My dsl account supports multiple static IP's and I would like internet for the development network, how should I split off the DSL to get internet on both the production and development network and still have the networks isolated? I though I could plug the modem into a spare hub and run one connection to the production outer and a second into another development one but am not sure if this would work.

Any advise would be appreciated

Terry
