Hello,
Can anyone please give me some advice on a good Cisco router for a small office with about 25-35 users. This router will be used as a gateway for the internet, that is provided by cable modem. Some day it will need to connect to another of ouer offices in Florida, and perhaps be the gateway for their internet use also. In other words all internet access will be provided by this router in our Ohio office. It needs to be a VPN endpoint, and have Firewall and IPSEC capable. I was thinking the 2621XM with Advanced Security IOS, but someone told me that for what I need it for an 871 would work great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the 1700 range, think the 1751 might be what your looking for.

The 871 would be OK for now but for later when bringing the other office through that location might tax the CPU. I would look at the 1800 series ISR routers. The 1841 is a modular router and can accept Wics where as the other models are fixed config. You can get integrated wireless with the fixed config models along with either ISDN or Analog port for backup connections. There is an advanced security bundle that I have been looking at. If not wanting to spend that much then look at the 800 series and stay away from the 1700 series. 1700 series is good but the limitation is the one fast ethernet port. You can add an additional ethernet port but it is not fast ethernet. Also flash memory is more expensive for this model as it is a compact flach type. The limitation of the 800 series is that they are fixed configuration with no expansion slots.
