Has anyone done a move from sbs 2003 sp1 and migrated to a new server. What would the best way to do this migration.

1) i was thinking upgrade my current server to R2 and then take a system backup and restore it to the new server.

My Main issue is not having to reconnect 30 cleints to a new server. the rest is simple Emails and etc

2) Bare metal restore Symantec or Acronis are options

3) pay someone to do it and learn in the process

The hardware is a dell poweredge 1600 to Dell Poweredge 1800 server and similar setup just bigger drives and Backup Dive

Why are you upgradeing? 1600SCs and 1800SCs are very similar. I have quite a few SBS2003 networks running on 3 year old 1600SCs. If you need bigger disks, install them? You can add a second processor if you want too. Dell will warranty servers for upto 5 years so don't let an expired warranty put you off.

Two reasons warrenty also i need a server for training and testing DR solution which will give me a machine whth a tape drive raid and basic warrenty from dell which is like £100 or so for the 4th year.
