My machine is running very sluggish at the moment - i have done a format, and when i re-intsalled everything it went back to the same thing - SLOW!!! For example, if i go to a web site, it sometimes just 'hangs' for a minute or so and then loads the page. It also does this when Outlook 2000 is loading. Has this happened to anyone else and is there a cure?

Cheers,

Fatmbk,
Perhaps it's not the OS or applications themselves. Maybe it has to do with your network connection or hardware.

I would start simple. Format/reinstall the system again without the NIC card installed. Test non-network applications for speed/reliability. Use benchmarks like SisoftSandra, PCMark, or 3DMark2001. If the results compare to the average for your system specs, then at that point install the network components and applications one at a time until you discover the culprit.

It's a lengthy troubleshooting process, but efficient...

i just came across a crazy problem..dust bunnies! There was so much *rap in a client's pc that it actually clogged and burned out the CPU fan and it would run real hot. The case fans were powerful enough to prevent it from locking up, but once the CPU fan was replaced it ran great again.

Look into heat as a possible cause if you run out of ideas. It does sound more like driver issues to me though. If using 2K, disable unneeded services and run Win2KSP3 if not already.
