i just got my dell laptop vostro 1000 1 gb ram; expandable to 2 gb ram; 60 gb harddrive ; cpu AMD Sempron 3600 2.0 ghz; windows xp home edition service pack 2

i just go the laptop in Jan. , the laptop seems to startup slow and freezing up sometimes when trying load windows and when trying to open an application.

i looked at the msn.config and took some things out of the start up.

what can stop this? more maximum amount of ram or more looking into the msn.config ?
i need the freezing and slowness to stop!

If its been doing this since you got it, then I'd get it fixed/replaced under warranty. With that spec, even with the rubbish they put on new laptops, it should fly - and freezing is obviously no good. It sounds like a hardware/driver problem.

If it was ok & this has developed, then have you added/removed any software/hardware?

i just added normal software that i need for basic : windows 2003 , norton anti-virus 2007 set not slow down the system and it doesn't, . and just a few other programs , bloodshed , dvd player that's it.

Replace it while it's under warranty, why mess with it.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.
