Network has a Server 2003 PDC moonlighting as a file server. All XP clients.
Everything is relatively smooth, occasionally browsing network shares is slow, a guaranteed fix is to powerdown and remove/reinsert the network cable and powerback up. So I suspect this issue is hardware related (the physical network is rather arcane and is in bad need of a rewiring and HW upgrade).
However even when things are running fast and smooth (the vast majority of the time) the "title" property is slow to appear. The file titles appear in sequential order slow enough that you can see the list "spawn"; long after the filenames and other properties (size etc) have been displayed. Its a minor annoyance since the list isn't extremely slow but bothersome in large directories with lots of documents
Is this slowness something intrinsic to the "file name" property or is something misconfigured or in need of tweaking
