Hi all,

just wondered if anyone had seen this sort of problem, and had any ideas. I've got a user who connects to Citrix (XPe) from a desktop machine. She has three printers set up on her desktop machine (two black and white, one colour), and all three are created without issue within her Citrix session. However, there is an Excel based plug in which she uses to produce reports, and, for this, she prints to her colour printer. However, the problem she has is that when she selects file, print, and then clicks browse to select the printer she wants to connect to, and then clicks on her colour printer, the application will freeze up. It will either then crash or, after a few minutes, the printer properties will appear, and she's able to print without further problems.

I've been able to ascertain that if she makes the colour printer her default printer BEFORE she logs into Citrix, it will bring up the printer properties straight away, and so it appears to be related to the fact that she is trying to print to her non default printer, but i've never seen an issue where selecting the printer will cause such time related issues to occur.

Ideally i'd like to find out what the problem is and resolve it but, as she tends to use Citrix to launch the application that she prints the reports from, is there any way to change the default printer at the point where the user logs in?

User doesn't want to change her default printer to be the colour one, as she'd normally print to the black and white printer, and I'm struggling to find reasons why this issue could be happening.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks if anyone can help,

Chris

There is a utility somewhere on here called defprint, I'd check that out when you find it.

cheers scott, am going to test this out, just want to be sure that if I use it as part of the user's login script it won't change the default printer for every other user on the Citrix box to her printer as well!!

Would love to know whats causing it, though, it seems to be only that printer.

Anyway, thanks for the info, might just do it :)

SHould be on a user per user basis, it does sometimes happen, I am sure there is also a hotfix, I will try and find out for you.
