Hi,

I have an estate with approx 25 servers, all performing local backups. They all have identical IBM4560SLX libraries, with HP Ultrium-1 drives.

Most of the backups run as expected, avg 1,200mb/min. But two of the sites have recently started running at 80mb/min. Regardless of what disk on the server it is backing up ( C, System, Exchange store).

They are all attached to Adaptec SCSI cards 29160LP Low Profile Ultra 160.

Drives have been cleaned, tried both devices in the libraries etc, but to no avail.

Any suggestions??

'What changed' on those two sites ? Any errors or warnings in the system or application event logs.

Start with updating the SCSI controller driver.

One of them only happened, after a drive that had been replaced had its firmware upgraded.

The second site, has been like this for weeks - not sure when it started, will have to trace the system logs.

Also,

In one of the sites, the following comes up in the log when starting the job:

I/O Transfer Length set to 64KB due to controller [adpu160m] setting of 68KB.

Would advise getting all of the drives in the library up to the same firmware level - running different levels of firmware on the same drive type in a tape library is not recommended any good hardware vendor should have realised the difference when replacing the faulty drive and brought all of the drives up to the same level.
