I am having an issue with boot times after I have entered my username and password. Once I have entered them, and the desktop appears, it seems to take an age for the system to fully load. This does not happen all the time though. Sometimes it will load quickly with no issues at all. I have disabled just about everything I can in msconfig that starts up, but it has made no difference. Occasionaly I have also noticed that there seems to be a slight pause when moving from one program to the next, such as from MS Word to IE. Again, this does not happen all the time. The only thing I have noticed is this started happening after a Windows Update, so could it be related to a fix MS have produced?

Have you timed the differences in bringing up the desktop? Checked event log (run eventvwr.msc) to see if any issues logged there? Run chkdsk?

Hi,
Do you have any permanent mappings to network drives? If so, access to those can slow things down markedly if some or all are not available at bootup..
