We have attempted a test migration of 3 test databases from SQL 6.5 on one box to SQL 2000 on another. Based on estimated times that MS spoke about it said that about a GB of data would move over in about less then an hour and gave addtional data on higher amounts. When running the upgrade wizard against these databases (about 1GB total) it was over 2 hours and still not done. When we looked at the directory size of the directory containing these migrated databases, it was only 530MB. If we let this go, it is possible that it was going to take 4hours. We needed to stop this to let users back in the system since this test was done during lunch time since we thought it would be only an hour. The total of the production databases size is 20GB. If this were to run on the production databases the time estimate is close to 80hrs based on our test!. Is there anything to be done to speed this up? DBCC were done prior with no errors. We have 100MB switched network. Also what needs to be done to clean out the migration of test databases that we started and needed to cancel in order to perform additional testing of the migration?
