Hello,

I have a Win2K server with sp3 that is 2 weeks old. The network accesses the internet thru an att broadband modem. The server was installed with DHCP and DNS and they were setup wrong. I removed the DHCP and reconfigured DNS server for the server to point at at&t and the workstations to point at the server. I also created a pagesys file on the hard drive that has the network apps and pointed the resources for apps instead of background. All of the machines have static IP

the problem is that browsing the netowrk is *very* slow and it gets slower as you use it. For example, log into a progam the first time it takes 20 sec. the second time 40 sec. and so on. I know that it does not have Nimbda.

I am out of ideas - what else needs to be done?

TIA for the help

Not sure how much it will help, but I had a similiar problem not long after setting up my server.

Ran a bunch of ping tests onto my server from wherever - and many arguments later the ISP agreed to send a 3rd party consultant out to take a look.

He found the first packet of info would always get dropped no matter what. Which in turn is continually being re-requested.

Everything slowed right on down.

The isp got the phone company out - and they at first did not see anything either - the old "its not us - its gotta be you" trick. But the consultant stuck with it, and the phone company saw what was happening - two problems were found, they rerouted us and not a problem since.

I have also had a perfectly good Nic card on a workstation be tremendously slow - new drivers the bit - changed nic's and up like a rocket.

"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"
