Slow opening Folder

Hello

I'm experiencing problems with Win 2K Opening Folders from Applications especially. Eg. If I go to EXCEL, open file and click on the drop down menu arrow it could take 5 Minutes to drop or hang the machine altogether. It happens on all applications. There is another machine on the network with the same problem so I thought it may be a virus. I ran an up to date checker and it was clean. The problem is also there without logging on to the network
Has anybody any ideas? Your help would be appreciated.

I have had 2 causes of this.
1 was down to the driver for a scsii card, updating the driver fixed that
The other was something to do with mapped network drives, but I still dont know why. I fixed it by removing them all and re-mapping them.

I disconnect all Network Drives and the speed greatly improved straight away including Logon Speed. One of the network drives was down which probably caused the problem
