I am trying to assist a Win ME user who has a problem with his drop down menus (File, Edit, etc). Instead of appearing instantly they open extremely slowly, opening down and to the right. This is happening in all MS Office programs but not, as far as I can see, anywhere else on the system. Animation is NOT enabled in display properties. He thinks he caused this himself by changing a setting somewhere a while back but has no idea where or what. I am a 98 user and am not overly familiar with ME, can anybody help?

Some info from Newsgroups...not to coherent but may help

In Tools=>Customize=>Options see if you have menu animation turned on
or the one for "SHOW FULL MENUS AFTER A DELAY"

Another user posted

.."Then, I noticed other small wave files were significantly slowing down
the PC. For example, in Office 2000, when I "ENABLE FEEDBACK WITH
SOUND", the Office menus, and scrolling, etc.. are horribly slow. But,
when I "UNCHECK" the "ENABLE FEEDBACK WITH SOUND" option, the menus,
scrolling, etc.. are WAY FASTER. Again, all these Office wave files are
tiny 3K wave files"....

And one mentioned:

Check "MenuShowDelay" in registry

and of course the obvious has your friend upgraded Office..?

Good Luck

Thanks Smitee, they all look possible, will check them out for him later today

Solved..
MS Word > Tools > Customise > Options > Menu Animation

Why this "feature" would be hidden here instead of in Tools > Options is beyond me.
