Slow Name Resolution!!!

Very strange problem, some nodes on our LAN are very slow when pinging by hostname, yet others are instant!

This is not specific to operating systems!

We use WINS on an NT4 server, which the nodes pickup through DHCP
 
If you ping the slow-responders by IP address rather than hostname, is the response about the same as the fast-responders? If not then the issue isn't resolution, it's the network....

Otherwise, perhaps some machines are using netbios and "talking" to each other already, while others are relying on WINS alone?
