Hi
When ever I login into solaris 8 as a user other then root , it takes for ever loading up from the solaris splash screen to the desktop(last time it took 10min).
Someone told me it could be something to do with the network.
Any ideas
thanks

Have you been experienced slow login if you login as root, if so your problem comes from wrong DNS settings. Fix your nsswitch.conf and/or named.boot files.

Ive seen something like this a while ago but when loggin into a terminal. Due to reverse DNSlookups not being activated, systems would sit for ages trying to query. A temp solution was to amend entries in the hosts file and edit the nsswitch.conf to query hosts file prior to DNS.

do the users have home directories? that always makes for a slow boot ... the windowing system keeps checking for the account, and uses defaults when it can't find anything ...
