Hi,
I got a new Dell laptop for a friend. It came with Win XP home and antivirus(MAC). He is not using it that often but now when the laptop starts up or I'm trying to shut it down, it takes a very long time , while laptop is up, it works fine, fast and I don't see anything is ruuning that may slows down any process.
Just start and shutdown or restart process is unusually slow.
Nothing extra is installed on it since we got it, just office and antivirus.
Any idea ??
Thanks

Got to start run uncheck your MAC stuff and see if that makes it run faster.

Use device manager and disable, not uninstall, any unused network adapters. A lot of the time spent is in a fruiteless search for a DHCP server.

Then do:

Finally, use this freeware tool, AutoRuns, from the incredible folks at Sysinternals. Exame in detail your startup process:

Thanks for the tips.. did you mean disable the McAfee ?? because I did disable the McAfee firewall and it didn't help.
