slow loading php site

I just switched my site from a static page site to a dynamically driven php site. And it seems to hang on loading pages, even the static ones that are left.
Could someone take a look and browse a few pages and see if you can tell what is haging up?
The png files are all tiny, flash files are small as well, and if you watch your network activity, it's not like it's loading some big file, it just sits and waits for a reply from the server or something.

Your site has links to a lot of data not on your server. Any one of your server or the other servers could be causing the problem.

Any of the externally located components could load slowly because that external server is responding with a lag or even is down.

we have no external server, it's all on one box.

What about the scripts from qksz.net or the ads and stories from Google?

Exactly. pce800, your main page requires that a user's browser fetch data from all over.

When I use telnet on port 80 to your computer and fetch just the main page, the data drives across quite nicely. But telnet doesn't also fetch all the associated content from all the servers referenced on your page.

ok, that may be true. but our static site bfore this had even more content like that and it loaded fine.
Check out this page as an example of one of our old static pages.

these pages used to load in a split second but now even they take time occassionally. It's like there is something stopping the server from sending out the info a browser is waiting for.

Again, by fetching the main script via telnet to your server at port 80, I can state for a fact that the main page streams quickly. It's something to do with the linked data.

Also, is this machine yours or at a hosting provider? Whoever is in charge of the web server really should update the PHP installation on that server.


The server is running Apache 1.3.26 and PHP 4.1.2. The next newer release of Apache, 1.3.27, was released in October of 2002. The next newer release of PHP, 4.2.0, was released in April of 2002. I think two years without a software update is a little long.
