Slow Internet XP Pro SP1 (Blueyonder 512 Broadband)

Hi

I have done a fresh install of Windows XP Pro onto a customers PC

I have applied the RPC update (prevent blaster & sasser worm) and also a Hosts File to block adware and spyware:

Web surfing is really slow and downloads are at 2/3 kb a second

I am pinging google as a test 66.249.85.104

I am recieving many timeouts and pings of 1000ms, I am pretty sure that the problem is isolated to this PC as my normal PC is fine

I would appreciate any help or advice, I have trawled the net and looked at Microsoft KB's with no luck

Hi

I have found what was causing this, I-WORM/MYTOB

It is a mass mailer, downloaded a removal tool from symantec and restarted PC, internet is lightning fast now

Unbelievable how much difference in speed is

Can ping google at 38ms

Thought id post to help others out
