Slow data transfer between sites

I have multiple sites with mixed Point-point speeds. I am using static routes with no routing protocol enabled on any router. All site routers are cisco 1600's. the router to the internet is a 2620 with a t1 wic installed and configure for 768K. The internet router holds all the routes for the remote sites. All the remote sites route through the 2620 router in order to go to another remote site.

Up until recently we have only had telnet traffic to a unix server which ran very well. When we added a Microsoft server and started doing data transfer the speed of the routers came to a crawl.

The individual point to point range in speed but average 368K. A 50MB files will take up to 30-40 minutes for the transfer. This transfer was done in the evening with no other traffic on the line.

The router coded is 12.3. I have changed the speed and duplex on the fastethernet interfaces with no change in speed. I noticed the remote router are using hdlc encapsulation and the internet router is using frame-relay encapsulation. Could this be a problem?

Thanks,
Any help would be appreciated

If there is an encapsulation mismatch, like you said one router is HDLC, the other is Frame Relay, communication will not start at all, so I don't think this is the problem. However check the interface statistics on your routers to see if there are any errors.

About the speed - 50MB with 384 kbps it should take around 17-18 minutes (you surely know that), however are you sure the router you tested the transfer speed had enough bandwidth allocated? Just asking...

There seems to be approx. 16% input errors on the internet routers serial interface. About the data transfer speeds the one site to site data transfer was with a 512K link and 50MB took a minimum of 30 minutes with no other traffic.

What could I look at for these errors?
