Sliced graphic in table is breaking apart 2

I'm messing around with some site layout stuff for my own personal benefit and wondered how the graphic containing the title and navigation menu is placed (like on this site for example) so that it doesn't break apart when text is added to the main <td>. I took a graphic and sliced it in Fireworks, placed the pieces in the table and they look great. I have a title across the top and a navigation menu along the left that seamlessly connects. That is, until I add any content to the main cell of my table. Then the graphic wants to break apart.

Any ideas?

try copying the table that holds the original layout you're trying to modify

This worked indirectly. I was able to see how someone else did theirs without breaking apart. Basically, I had my graphic sliced into too many pieces. It's still not perfect, but it's much better. Thanks!
