I have an SL1100 system. ALl extensions can pick up and join a call in prgress by pressing the line button. I need to disable this. On other systems I work on it is called extension privacy. It seems that the SL1100 disables it by fdefault and a user has to enable privacy ona per call basis if I read trhe manual correcvtly. Can I set privacy on by default?

You can disable this through Class of Service options in 20-13. There are 2 or 3 that apply but I think they all have privacy in the names.

The implementation of this on the SL1100 is awful. When privacy on the lines is off the lines flash similar to a line being on hold but the flash is at a different cadence. It is worse if privacy is off by default because then all the lines in use flash all the time. If they ever use hold it turns the line keys into a hypnotic confusing mess for the customer.

There is a Barge feature that is activated by a Barge-In button that can be programmed on the phone or a service code. It is also enabled or disabled in Class of Service in 20-13. The Barge feature targets an extension instead of a line but it is a much better way to accomplish the "line privacy off" effect on the SL1100

This is a horrid mess. All my client wants is for a user to not be able to press a line button when a call is in progress and be able to join ti as if internal conference. Everything I have tried involves disabling the ability for anyone to join the call only on a per call basis. It is like NEC decided that every single call is a wide open conference call ubless somebody turns privacy on but only for that one call.

I thought all the line privacy was on by default so I think this must have been changed to allow people to jump on calls. I buy from a distributor that installs all the daughter cards, upgrades the firmware, and loads a custom default config so I don't always remember NEC's defaults correctly though.

Yes, the line privacy on the SL1100 is absolutely horrid. One setting in 20-13 determines if privacy can be toggled and another determines if it is off or on by default. The line key blinking when privacy is off is enough to make the feature unusable. It seems designed to drive people mad.

If you ever need to allow people to jump in on other people's calls you really have to use the Barge feature (also needs to be enabled in 20-13) which targets the extension and not the line. Press Barge and enter the extension number. There is also a second setting in 20-13 (I think?) that determines whether the Barge starts as a monitor only or a conference. Barge also might require that the extension be entered on the keypad. I don't think it works with DSS keys. That might only be the case if automatic line selection is checked in 15-01-02 but I think it is the case all the time unless it was changed in the 5.0 firmware.

I plan to just default all the COS settings and see where that leaves me. This was also shipped with a pre-configured DB. The owner did not buy the tech support so I'm on my own.
