After many great years of SK95 and 98 with pre-XP windows, I upgraded my computer to XP -- mainly for the stability.

Home version via upgrade.

Now.. SK98 will not show the calls and to dos from the original user file; Manual entry also does not carry over to following day(s).

As XP has been around a while now.. I wonder if any other user has found a cure for what I would expect is a common problem?

Thank you...

Dear joevl,
See the following page at Starfish for the answer to this and check out this forum for answers to SDK98 on WindowsXP.
Reassemble the link as I have had to put spaces in it as it doesn't wrap on the Tek-Tips page and subsequently makes the page too wide.

James,

I read a number of you things eariler today and was going to vote for you but can't find where.. I'm sorry to have to send this dumb message, but I'm a relative "newbie".. what do you mean by "reassemble the link"?

You seem to be an expert on XP.. do you know anything about Winfax 7.0 and how to install a printer driver to XP before I go out and shell out $70-+ for a winfax.

Also having no luck hearing from Visioneer for a Twain Driver for a flat bed scanner if you have any help.

I'm paying a big price not to have blue crash screens... I had no idea WinXP had this many incompatitilibies!

Look forward to your reply and help.. Thanks

Dear joevl,

When I say reassemble the link I mean the following and I quote from one of my FAQ's on this forum:

"All very long Links on this page have been broken up into shorter lengths by inserting gaps in them.
Select the entire shortcut and paste it into Notepad, Disable Word Wrap and then press End FIRST then Delete and keep repeating that sequence until you reach the end of the Link. Then select the entire Line and Copy it and paste it into the Address line of your Browser."

Browsers do not like spaces in addresses and Tek-Tips does not like long links/addresses as the page gets unnaturally wide.... so my solution is to put gaps in any Addresses that I give to avoid making the page difficult to read.

With regard to WinXP and Winfax; I am certainly not an expert on either (only a little knowledgeable where it relates to Sidekick, and some of that comes from reading other's Posts)

I did a quick search in Google but all I came up with was a suggestion that it was necessary to Upgrade to Winfax Pro 10.0. Not I imagine what you wanted to hear!

Hope that Helps.

James.. Thank you. What I don't quite know is exactly what all is part of the link. There is a "period" or "dot" after the last word in the blue underlined normal link, i.e, newsite. with the period left intact here. Is that a sentence end or is that to be part of the link?

Then at the very end, there are 3 letters.. could be part of the link or could be initials.

Hope once I get this cut and pasted it will be a "fix".. SK98 is working to the extent the daily calendar comes up and the contacts come up with history following, but the call list and to do list now won't roll over to the next day.

Funny thing... while running it in 98, I had developed a problem in the contacts screen that would not let me right click to cut, copy, paste any entry... it would crash the program. I could hilite and go into the File + command and make it work. When I upgraded to XP, the hilite and right click started working... but not the to do and calls.

Someone at Starfish had their "head in the clouds"... they didn't know what they had. Probably like you, I tried everthing including trying to force feed Outlook and Outlook Express to myself, and couldn't get into a "I like it mode" no matter what. I spent over $300 on other PIMS as well, including the ones Rush Limbaugh was promoting 5 years ago, etc. Sidekick always came out on top. If they didn't want to keep and market it, seems like someone would have bought the sales and marketing rights.

Thanks again.

Joe

Oh!!!
Tek-Tips has changed while I wasn't looking and the link wraps.
Great

Check out the FAQ area of this forum, you can get a few of the answers there.
Especially
faq807-1241

I have re-edited the links there now and they don't wrap!
well never mind use them anyway.
