When saving from hard drive to a CD, does the number of MBs' or KBs' decrease, or am I not managing to save the entire file?

A file written to CD should have the same File Size Properties as the File on the Harddrive.

Perhaps you can supply extra details.

320174 - Compact Disc Recorded in Windows XP Is Missing Files or Folders or Is Unreadable

283052 - "Display file size information in folder tips" Option Does Not Apply to Files

314878 - The Default Cluster Size for the NTFS and FAT File Systems

314939 - Incorrect Contents Are Displayed in Windows Explorer

Another thing to note is that most CD Writing utilities will show the size of the file in Kb (Kilobytes) While XP tends to show the size in Mb (Megabytes). The Xp way does not show the exact file size, in fact if you right click on a file and select properties you will see 2 different file sizes. 1)Size 2) Size on Disk. It is the Size on Disk that will be used by your Burning Software.

Thanks linney and gpalmer711. Here is some more info: Got a new computer to install. Old computer no CD burner on it, no portable CD burner and ZIP drive not working on old one. Tried saving hard drive to external internet files WS_FTP95 yesterday. Most files transferred, (the largest one wouldn't transfer 663 MB) when later burnt the transferred files to a CD ( remote computer) the size of files were all slightly, some considerably, smaller than size on hard drive for both MB sized files and KB sized files. Did they maybe get compressed into smaller files? Or did I lose files? Thinking of buying external hard drive and re-saving everything. Is this necessary?

Probably the easiest way of doing this would be to put the old harddrive in your new computer and copy the data to your new HD.

You can buy kits that turn your IDE HD into a USB Drive, in the UK they retail for around £45.

As to your problem with WS_FTP95 i'm am not sure as I have never used that piece of ftp software.

Where did you FTP the files to? The location may not have had the capacity to store a 663mb file.

Thanks for responding so swiftly gpalmer711. I think we are nearly talking about the same end result by buying some supplimentary equipment. You with respect to an IDE HD kit and me with an external hard drive both which make use of the USB port?

Trying to hook up EBI 100C Impedance Cardiograph (Biopac). I am unsure about electrode placement, lead configuration as well as data capture. We just got sent the materials (including the leads and electrodes) without any instructions on how to hook someone up and record readings. We are going to be using Awknowledge software. Any information or links for information would be very much appreciated.
