I have 2 sites approx 15 miles apart. We have an SBC gigaman circut between the 2 sites. Each site has a 4507 that manages vtp for the specific site. The master site sends an ospf default information originate to enable routing (there is a backup T1 for failover). I want to have some private network run between the two sites. I know I can add a switch on each and and have the pair do vlan trunking. Does anyone have any alternatives?

Can you expand on what you mean by 'private network'? Doyou mean as in a secure, encrypted VPN tunnel or just a private VLAN or something else entirely?

or is it run over a dwdm network (this is probably true)

to kiscokid, a private vlan
to buckweet, the provider has equipment on each end to light the fibre but the link lights on my cisco switch interfaces go up and down when my device on the far end is plugged and unplugged

Kiscokid, thanks, that article will help me with a different issue. For this one, I'm considering options for connecting two sites. If I do it at layer two, it seems I can have more flexibility later?.... does this make sense?
