Site not showing up in AOL Browser

I recently found out that my site is not viewable in an AOL browser because of a proxy server? I then removed the META tag ( <meta http-equiv=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=iso-8859-1&quot;> ) and it worked. Does any one no what that tag does. Is it necessary, or is it possible to get dreamweaver to stop putting it in.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
