I have a site on a server 2003 that was built with Dreamweaver using asp. The site was not built by me so I am not sure how dreamweaver works. I do not want anonymous access to this site, so when I uncheck that and tell it to use windows authentication, the site does not work. It works fine when anonymous access is checked. Any ideas how to fix this? I want to use ssl and have users enter a user id and password to access this site.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi, be sure that Integrated windows authentication is enabled and check your ACL to include a valid user account.

What's the error message?

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

When I take off anonymous login and click windows auth. . Then I try to get to the site, the logon box appears and I put in my id (I am using an account with admin rights). It gives me page can't be displayed.

Hi, did you enable asp extension in IIS manager (under web server extensions, select permit for ASP).

If so, try to modify the isolation level of your website.

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

Yes asp is enabled. The strange thing is the site will work internally either way when I connect to it by server name. But, when I try to connect to it from outside my lan it will only work if I enable anyonymous logon. By the way I am trying to use ssl with a certificate generated from MS CA. Is there anything special I need to do for ssl?

The certificate downloads fine and then the logon box, I enter user id and pass and get page can't be displayed. I am just really confused now.

Hi, if your server is not a domain controller, try to define and use a local account for windows integrated authentication. Ensure that this user have "log on locally" advanced user right.

Did you try to make your website isolated (iis manager, home directory)?

Sorry to enjoy this, I'm just happy to help. I won't let you down.
I'm just a Tek-Tips enthousiast.

Jeff, thanks for all your help with this!

The server is not a dc, its a member server. I gave this user log on locally along with admin rights. Still won't work.

The home directory is

I am not familiar with that. How do I do it?

I found isolation mode. It was already set to that. Anymore ideas?

Are you trying to logon with a domain account or a local account created on the IIS server?

Its a local account with full admin rights.

I just tried using basic authentication and it does work fine that way. I don't know why it won't work with integrated windows auth?

Is basic authentication ok if I use ssl?
