We have a single site server (SMS2003 SP2) and no distribution points. What is the best practice for creating packages in this configuration? When I create a new package for an MS security update I noticed the folder is created in the SMSPKG$ directory and a duplicate folder is created on the C drive. Is there a way to configure SMS to only reference the file in in the SMSPKG$ directory? It seems like a waste of space to create these packages in two locations.

Thanks.

How can you not have a distribution point? (That is what the SMSPKG$ directory is ;-D)

if you want the duplicate off the c drive the, delete it and a rename a 0 byte txt file to no_sms_on_drive.sms and put it on the root of C:
