I dont want my mail server to be a relay. Where can I find the option for it to only accept mail from domain.com Thanks in advance. Any other ideas for not making the outside work relay the server. I know of a reverse look up but that just slows things down. I am using exchange 2000 stll and will be upgrading soon.

Open ESM

Go to Servers | ServerName | Protocols | SMTP | Default SMTP Virtual Server
Right-click | Properties
Click the tab 'Access'
Click 'Relay'

Here is where relay options are configured.

Hope this helps.

accept FOR domain.com has nothing to do with relaying.

So, if I understand you correctly, you want your server to handle the extra domain.com.
All you need to do is add that domain to your default recipient policy, or add a policy.

I guess I am confused myself. I just want my exchange box to recieve e-mail for users@mydomain.com lets say user123@mydomain.com does not exist...I want it to be rejected.

Further more I did some tests by telnetting in to my mail server and seems like it is relaying

>>> HELO mydomain.com
<<< 250 Hello mail.mydomain.com [208.31.42.77]

Relay test 1
>>> RSET
<<< 250 Reset OK
>>> MAIL FROM:<spamtest@mydomain.com>
<<< 250 OK
>>> RCPT TO:<securitytest@foo.org>
<<< 250 OK

This was 1 out of 7 tests. The website I was reading said the RCPT TO: should fail.

This is the site I used

Not really sure how to prevent it. I guess only autheticated users should be able to send..meaning anymore from mydomain.com right?

read the FAQs in the Exchange 2000 Forum on relaying, the same rules apply.

As for a non-existing user, you will always receive it, that you cannot stop.
But you can just ignore it too, and send NO NDR's to the internet! Disable them!
