Question for you all. I am pursuing my CCNA, and I am currently building a new townhome. What would be some recommendations for Cisco gear that will:

A) Help me with my CCNA and
B)I can utilize in my home network setup.

Not to get into details, but I have a 3Mb cable connection with a surfboard cable modem. I am installing a central structured wiring panel that will run to each room in the house. I am considering Gigabit, but am not sure yet. It all depends on my equipment. I would like to put my cable modem, router and switch in that room so its out of the way.

What would be a good setup?
I was leaning towards a 2524 Router and possibly a 2950 switch if the price is right. If I cant find a good deal on a 2950, I was thinking about starting off with a WS-C1924C-EN.

My main reasoning for this is to study for my CCNA, but also utilize the equipment in a "real world" environment. Basically, if I can't set it up right, my internet stays down and the fiance yells at me!

Would this work?

Thanks!

Magid,

I'm assuming your broadband provider has allocated you with one static ip???

If so, you're 2524 will need dual ethernet ports to support client ip's.

From there, I would concentrate on NAT'ing ip address from you LAN to your provider (as this is all a broadband router does.)

Here is a good reference on NAT...

BTW, you won't see ANY switching commands on the CCNA, but it doesn't hurt to brush up.

Ciao

Nothing to do with Cisco but Instead of using a patch panel, You could use ethernet over powerline for your client PCs. -- Great Product and no new wires also.

For my CCNA I used 2 Cisco 2500 Series with a 2900 series switch. All EBay equipment.

As far as switching commands I believe ther may have been some VLan questions.
