I'm getting ready to upgrade my SMS 2003 to SP1. The only real installation instructions for the upgrade seem to be in the installation Wizard itself. During the installation it asks me if I've tested the upgrade on a copy of the database. Well i've finally had the DBA's copy the database over but they want me to test its functionality.

1 - What do i configure to change the db location in SMS?
2- While I'm at it ... does anyone know of any issues with these upgrades?/

Thanks,
Mike

You dont want to do that because once you tell sms that its in a new location you cant move it back.

Here's a play by play procedure: (from Chris Urban on MYITFORUM.com)

1. Back up your SMS database using one of the two methods below:

Use the backup of the site database created by a recent SMS backup task

Stop all SMS services on the SMS site server. Use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to back up the SMS database.

2. On another computer running the same version and service pack of SQL server, restore the database that you backed up using the following method:

First, note that you do NOT need to install SMS on the computer on which you will restore the database

Create a new database with the same name as the database to be restored.

Set the default data/log file sizes to 1MB when creating this database.

Restore the database using SQL Server Enterprise Manager. If the drive letters differ between original location and location being restored to, you may need to modify the destination drive and file properties during the restore.

3. On the computer with the newly restored database, type the following from a command prompt:

Setup.exe /testdbupgrade <database name>
