Thank you in advance for your help. I installed a linksys router between two computers. One desktop one laptop both run XP Pro(Tablet PC) on laptop. The desktop is LAN the laptop is WLAN. NO INTERNET. They both ping the router. Here is the problem. The desktop will not ping the laptop. The laptop will ping the desktop. When I try to go to the desktop from the laptop I get a username and password login. Where did this come from? (I have never seen this before I have this exact setup at home with the exception of internet, it works great. Just ran the wizard and both computers see each other, share etc.) When I try to go from desktop to laptop I get an error don't have permission to do this. Any Ideas thanks.

You're saying you have both PCs on the inside ports and nothing on the outside (internet) side of the router (using the router like a switch)? In this case you should be able to ping both ways, unless the PC firewall is not allowing it. What is the model of the Linksys?

Correct it is just a hub or switch. This application has no internet. I don't know the model number. I will get it. I turned off the PC (windows) firewalls no help. Are there any other firewall settings?

If they're both attached to a switch and your IP addresses are both on 192.168.1.x or whatever, and your subnets on both are 255.255.255.0, and your firewalls are off, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to ping both ways by IP address (not necessarily by name), no matter what security is set up in Windows or Simple File Sharing. You need to solve that first, then maybe run the Simple File Sharing Wizard.
