Let me give you some background info - we just migrated from an old Vodavi system to IP Office, and on the old system to check voicemail you simply hit the message button, entered your password and listened to your messages.

On our new IP Office, due to owners concerns that Vis VM was not secure (just their opinion); it has been turned off and the users are now complaining that they have to enter theit extension and then the password to get their messages. We discovered that you can simply press the # key and it will assume/recognize your extension and prompt for your password.

I'm looking to program a button that will first dial the # key and then collect voicemail. Is that possible and if so what is the best way to do what I'm looking for.

I am going to continue to RTFM and hopefully discover the answer, but if someone could speed the process it would be of great help.

I asume you are on software level 4.2

Then create a button

Voicemail collect
Telephone number ?extension number
Line id 0

What sort of voicemail?

If Voicemail pro then build a default start point for Collect mail with a GetMail Action. In the specific tab select "Callers Mailbox" and on the General tab put $ in the pin box

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Thanks for the quick responses -

Yes software is 4.2 and Voicemail Pro

tlpeter/Notsetinstone - both of these methods put me where I already am - I get the welcome to IP office message and please enter a extension and # sign then password. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are telling me to do.

Matt - excuse my newbie like questions - After i create that path, how to tie it to the system? Or does it automatically do that.

To be honest my PBX experience is with Tadiran and T-3 Voicemail systems so IP office is a new animal to me.

I think your system is on intuity mode
When you use the ipoffice mode it won't ask you for your extension

Yes it is on Intuity Mode, probably something I should have told you.

If you create the call flow I've described in the default Collect start point. This is in the VM pro client, not the IP Office manager.

The system will just work, as all the voicemail collection calls will route through that route, unless there is a more specific start point programmed,

Have you thought of using visual voice?
nice interface try it out by programing a "visual voice" button on the phone

Your not clear. Don't you want to get to where it automatiaclly asks for password? If so do what I said. Remember #=# not the extension number!

Notsetinstone - Yes the goal is to get it to skip asking for extension and just prompt for the password. So maybe, like I said I'm not following you on this.

If i understand you correctly - lets say i want to use my ext. as the test bed, I go into IP Office Manager and go to Users>MyExt>Button Programming> I choose a button postion, for instance position 7 Choose Dial>ActionData *17# then save - or am I completly in the wrong place

Westi - Visual Voice was vetoed by the ownership group > they feel it is not secure, hence my quest for another method. It one of this things where the old system did things differently and everyone is used to that, so they have expectations from the new system to be able to duplicate something simple - they know they have a far superior system to what we had, just looking for those little easy things.

Notsetinstone - I'm guessing that because my system is in Intuity mode I am unable to program the button that way. If I program it as decribed above it still asks me for my extension plus the # and then the password.

I just read the Manual on the short code of *17 and it states that it will not work in Intutity mode. :(

Matt - if I do as you suggest and it creates a problem, I am able to just remove the call flow and revert back to the way things are now? I don't want to be the guy who hosed the new phone system less than two weeks after install!

Should I be making backups or these types of changes at off peak times? Or can I forge foward and make the change and make everyone happy?

I just tried Notsetinstone's suggestion and it works for me and *17 is only the call into the voicemail it doesn't specify the mode the VM is in

It does work in Intuity Mode, but not in the way I am trying to acheive. If I dial *17 I am greeted with "Welcome to IP office, if you need help yada, yada, yada ... Please enter your extension followed by the pound sign.

If I create a button as described above - same result - it simply does not bypass the "please enter your extension followed by the pound sign" prompt.

Am I missing something?

if you go to a phone and dial *17# without stopping does it do what you want?

It says "Welcome to IP Office..... please enter extension followed by the # sign."
Right after that I mumble phrases that I'm sure HR would love to talk to me about.

I appreciate your help with this - As someone who often answers others questions in Tek-Tips forums, I know it can get frustrating at times
