simple Bootable partiton

can anyone help me please...

i have a machine for training purposes

i need to re-image it on a regular basis

i have a ghost image on a second partition of the hdd

i have a boot disk that automatically replaces the 1st partition using the image

i would like to somehow have an option in the statup menu (boot.ini) to choose 'windows 2000' or ' re-image drive'
i tryed to install dos on the second partition but it just screwed up windows 2000

does anyone know how i can format the second partion with dos system file to allow it to be bootable?

You can make the second partition bootable to a (minimal)dos prompt by booting PC with a win98 boot floppy, and typing sys X: where X: is drive letter of second partition (partition would also need to be made active). However, this wouldn't put it on win2k's boot menu. Normally, for this to happen, Dos/win9x would be installed on the first partition & then you'd install 2k on the second partition. The install process would detect the dos/win9x installation, and set up an entry for it on its boot menu. (it needs a copy of the dos/win9x bootsector saved as a file to work). Also, you'd need an autoexec.bat file on the dos partition to start your ghost process.

Suggestion: Use 3 partitions. Have a small first partition with 'dos' installed (plus autoexec & ghost process), second partition for win2k and 3rd partition just to store the image. Or just swap partitions so dos & image & ghost software is on the first, 2k on the second.
