I am interested in buying some silver thermal compund for my heatsinks...becuase it is made of silver i wanted to put some silicon around the exposed connectors around my chip, like on my video card so that if any spills over the edge it will not bridge connections, will this hurt anyhitng, like air curculation, heat, etc?

thanks

Matt

I guess this is a slight worry!! but unecessary, really!
I suppose if their is a risk it is because of applying TOO MUCH paste to the contact area.
I have even seen people spred it all over the processor (Athlon) not realizing that it only needs to be applied to the very small contact patch in the centre.
You ever seen mouse droppings?? well one mouse droppings worth is all thats needed on the raised CPU core.
After all the paste is only their to fill in the surface inperfections between the two surfaces and NOT! as some people believe, be an undisturbed layer holding them apart. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

o i didnt relize that either...only a small amount in the middle of the CPU works fine? and the thing i was worried about was like on the video card i will use it to put on a chipset cooler and some heatsinks on the momory ( i plan to overclock the video card, just to see if i can do it hehe, not as much risk as a CPU or MOBO) but those have little connecters exposed on the outside of the ship and i heard that a good solution so that the silver paste will not bridge connections is to cover those exposed connectors with silcon thermal paste or somthing, is this a good idea, and if not what is?

thanks
