Silly net use question 1

How do I net use to/from XP? I seem to have such issues getting a net use connection to/from a XP pro workstation. ICF is disabled, I can ping by IP address, etc....just not map a drive.....

What happen to the following commands: (/PERSISTENT:YES option is for you to reconnect automatically at logon)

Join a file share (Drive MAP)
NET USE [driveletter:] \\ComputerName\ShareName /PERSISTENT:YES

Join a file share (Drive MAP) - Win 2K / XP
NET USE [driveletter:] \\ComputerName\ShareName\folder1\folder2 /PERSISTENT:YES

Join a file share (Drive MAP) - with a "long" share name
NET USE [driveletter:] "\\ComputerName\ShareName"

Join a password protected file share (Drive MAP)

Getting the following....I know how to map a drive/net use...it's a permissions thing somewhere.....

is file sharing enabled on the target pc? I think you have to click on the enable file sharing for there to be a c$ target, otherwise c$ doesn't exist.
once the firewall is enabled you may need to configure it to allow file sharing on the network.

Yes, it is shared...I am trying to connect from a XP
Pro > XP Home. I can ping it fine, but it is a problem from the XP Pro system.

I have another XP Pro system, and it completes a drive Map without any issues.......

actually this sounds like the usual can't see it on the network, but can ping it issue..

can you see the computer in "network neighborhood"?

I don't remember the resolution for this, but it happens all the time on my home network :/

I changed the XP Home edition workgroup to WORKGROUP, it is visable, but tells me I "might not have permission to use this network resource" the network path was not found....


but my other XP pro box can map a drive fine......

1. Same workgroup name (use all Capital letters for safety), unique Computer Name.
2. No firewall issues, including the native ICF XP firewall; third-party firewalls; and "hidden" firewalls in antivirus programs (PC-Illan for example);
3. All usernames and passwords synchronized at all machines: Username and passwords (exactly) on Computer A
made usernames with passwords (exactly) on Computer B, C , etc. Or, use the default "Simple File Sharing" and enable the Guest account on all machines;
