I'm playing with one at the moment. I'll try & find out for you. Be careful when you connect it up to your E Lan, As we have found that the Sig Server searchs for all other Applications & it aquired our two ITG cards (One Trunk & 1 line).
The Sig Server decided to change the default ITG passcodes!. We might have been doing something wrong. I guess it means another read up of the installation process again!.

We currently have the ITG cards in use, and we are going to upgade to the Succession 3.0. I am also wondering if we need a signaling server at each site (27 sites total).
The thing is we we're thinking that we had to only have one signaling server and upgrade the exisiting ITG cards into media gateway cards (which as we understand the ITG upgrade is a software upgrade).

--> No ! You have to put Signalling Server on biggest sites.
Ip phone can register on ITG card too, if there is a problem with signaling server or with the WAN.

--> currently we don't have any IP phones deployed. Could this be why we are being told that we have to have a server at each branch?
Also do you have a setup like this currently in use?

One thing that I have learnt is that the sig server will support Pentium & the SMC Strong Arm cards which will also have to be upgraded to the latest "IP Line" software version. The sig server will aquire & change the passcode of the IP Line card, which means that the original ITG passcode is no longer used!.
The "Elephant" Element Manager is interesting to use & I've found that the passcode for the Media card is now taken from the Successions PWD1 Name & passcode!.
If your PWD1's Name & passcode is less than 8 Digits / Characters long, Then you must use the (Spacebar) to complete the code length of "8"!.
The old "ITG" Trunk cards are not used anymore as the Sig Server will only use the "ITG" Line card. There is no need for a D Channel either as it's all controlled now by the Sig Server.
There is little need to use MAT / OTM except for the normal station / collection of Succession data. The Element Manager does a fair bit of the work now.
Programming of the Trunk side is different because it uses Virtual trunks & the TN's are now within the "Virtual" superloop's!. They can share the same superloop as the IP Line Internet Phones (Not the same card slot!).
Nortel have increased the number of Virtual slots with the Succession / Opt11c V03.00 software. If you key in LD 97 "PRT" type "SUPL" & c/r, You will see the virtual card slots allocated plus 3 or 4 more new slots to use.
I'm still playing with it, so I'll try & keep you posted where possible.

We are being told that we have to buy a Signal server for every site (27), and I personaly think they are bsing us.
We are located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and might be interested in a new vendor if anyone knows of a good one email me.

As far as I know, You will only need to have one Sig Server on the network, connected to one Meridian system.
Acording to one of my colleagues, All that you will need at other Meridian Nodes, will be a Pentium / Media (SA) Line card at the latest release for Succession. You will need a "T" & "E" LAN I P Address. It's configured as some sort of remote node?. I'll try & get some more info on it.
We have now got it working to another Succession via the Gatekeeper & I'm pretty impressed with the Element browser. You can do a fair bit of programming with it.

One thing to note is that a call made from a fixed Meridian set i.e. normal TN, over the IP Network will be sent into the IP (ITG) Line card first. It will then be passed on into the Sig Server, before entering the IP Cloud.
If you trace one of these calls using the e.g. TRAC 0 6543, You will notice the extra lines of "trace" data. You can follow the complete path of the call.
Another point to remember is that a IP Telephone call is made only from the Sig Server & that the IP Line card will only be used when the Sig Server is off line.
To use the Element browser is a real delight compared to MAT / OTM!.

Firebird, you mentioned that you are using a gatekeeper. Which one are you using? Does Nortel have a branded gatekeeper or is it just part of the signalling server? How does element manager come into play? Do I have to have this in order to use a signalling server?

I've just sent you a excel copy of your last message. The Gatekeeper software is housed within the Signalling Server. It is accessed via the Element Manager software on the Microsoft internet Explorer.
It's all Nortel software.
