I recently installed W2K Server and now every time I try to shut down the computer it keeps restarting. I cleared the checkbox in Startup and Recovery for Automatically Restart to no avail- The system keeps restarting. No new software was installed so I don't believe this is an issue. Perhaps a BIOS Upgrade is in order? What do you folks suggest?

i agree with you..try disabling advanced power options in your BIOS A+, MCP, CCNA

Guess what!!??? It's back!!! There is no category in the BIOS for Advanced Power Options. This is a Dell Optiplex GX260.Perhaps a BIOS Upgrade from AO2 to AO3 will solve it? I think this problem occurs after the CPU heats up a bit, because it shut down OK the first few times after it sat overnight. Here we go again.

I had this issue not too long ago. My MB was heating up too much the safety actually shut off my pc until it was cool enough to startup again. Are you using any MB moniters? Could be the options in there

cheers

Hi,
I've worked a bit with overheating systems, and found CPU Cool to work rather well for me. It will give you a variety of meters, etc. depending on your hardware configuration. It detects some things, but in order to see some of your fans represented as meters, you will have to select them from drop-down lists.
Another issue to consider here, that's a quick test for you, would be to open up the box, find all the fans and make sure they are all turning when you boot up. If any isn't, that could be the reason it's hot. Also, check for excessive dust inside.
Then, if everything seems ok, try using a regular household fan turned on high directed right at the open side of the server. If you don't crash with the additional fan, more fans may be a simple solution.

Hope this helps. [afro2]

You might want to take a look at this on the 95/98 forum (look at the more recent replies for a possible fix)

When you shut down, what happens if you turn off the button in the back of the server assuming you have one. Question, why would you shut down the server and not re-boot? Just curious. Glen A. Johnson
