I know a patch exists for windows 98 that will fix the problem of Windows hanging on the Windows 98 Shutdown screen. Does a patch exist for 95?? I've searched microsoft's site, but I can't seem to find anything. I've tried using the 98 patch on 95, but it won't let me run it.

Thanks Mike Rohde

You know I have been working with windows for a long time> I dont EVER remember Windows 95 shutting down on its own. I always thought it came to a screen that told you it was fase to shut off. Am I mistaken? James Collins

I've had several machines that it would shut off automatically, while others would simply tell you it was safe to turn off your machine.

The machine I'm having trouble with does neither.... Mike Rohde

When you say hanging, I will presume you mean you get the 'windows is shutting down' screen and not the 'it is now safe to turn off your 'puter' screen. The usual fault of this is either the video card driver not releasing the system, or a network card driver doing the same. I would check on both, remove the NIC, and (if possible) change the video card's slot (or video card), and see if it make a difference. Then check for updated drivers for the offending card.
