Using the XP Pro original disk I deleted all partitions from a hard drive that was in a Dell computer. I put this drive in a new computer and formatted the free space with NT. After installing XP Pro all works well but when restarting I was prompted for choice of operating systems (either XP Pro or XP home which was existing before) Only XP Pro works, as it should.
I opened boot.ini and deleted the reference to XP Home. When rebooting I now get a choice for Windows(default}or XP Pro. In fact Windows(default)is the highlighted choice.
How do I remedy this? My boot.ini file is as follows:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Thanks for any help.

You're missing the 'default' line. boot.ini should look like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Thank you Smah. What's strange is that I took that line out on purpose because after removing the xp home line I was getting a choice for "Windows(default)"or "XP Pro". So I thought removing the default line would help. It obviously didn't.
I copied your post and all's well.

Thanks again.
