Just out of curiosity I wonder if anyone can tell me what this is all about. It's not particularly a problem (I think) but a few times when the machine has played up and I've restarted the final end program dialogue that has flashed up has been 'Should Not See Me' dialog. I've run Adaware, Spybot and Virus check to make sure so I'm fairly happy it's an application or windows process. What is it/does it do?

There's more than a bit of debate over the true source of this topic. Many have experienced this "should not see me" dialog box. I myself had it occur on one newly-installed server recently. All adware and antivirus scans turned up nothing. And yes, I used the most recent definition files for all scanning software.

From research, I'd say the most likely cause is the windows installer program. Am I 100% certain of this? No. People have blamed the via 4-in-1 drivers, but it's also occured on sis-based systems. I've seen epson printers blamed, etc etc. But the windows installer is present on every windows system, and is therefore a much more likely culprit. I just wish that the programmer who wrote the code which named this dialog box, would have chosen something a little less ominous.

Hi,
Just from my observation of this post and knowledge of programmers in general, this looks like a piece of program that the programmer forgot to rename(or hide) from the user.
"should not see me" sounds like a note that the programmer made about the applet in the early stages of its design but forgot to take it out. More than likely and MS piece of software and nothing to be alarmed about.

Well that's answered my question anyway!! Thanks, for what it's worth i'm on a Gigabyte GA7DX with VIA 4in1 drivers so it may be the culprit. As I say never been a problem and it only shows when the system is bogged down trying to shut down from a near crash situation.

I did find this from a Websense readme though which does rule out one possibility:

* WINDOWS 2000 INSTALL/UNINSTALL: If Windows Explorer
is open in Windows 2000 during installation of the
Websense Enterprise, Check Point FireWall-1 Edition,
or when you uninstall any edition of Websense, you may
see the message "Ending Program...you should not see me"
just as Windows shuts down for the restart. This message
comes from Windows 2000, and does not affect Websense
installation in any way.

And someone said on another forum that they have a friend at MS who has admitted it is a Windows process although MS won't publicly own up to it. Could still be rumors tho..... :)
