whilst I haven't looked into the differences between JavaScript versions, browser manipulation techniques have advanced considerably (for example, document.write is not compatible with XHTML. DOM manipulation techniques should be used instead.)
Whether this makes it worth your while investing in an updated book is up to you - personally, I tend to use a book to learn the foundations of a subject, then use internet resources for developing that knowledge and providing a reference 'manual'.
I totally agree. I've learned the foundations of this book a long time ago. It's been my friend and companion over the past six years. As funny as it is, I don't want to let it go because I'm somewhat personally attached to it. However, I think I will pick up the new version at some point.
I learn much like you, the fundamentals from the book and the rest from the Internet.
