From several different sources, I've heard that AD client is HORRIBLE; messes with service packs on nt wks.
DLL hell with Win9x.

Then from another source I heard that they haven't had any problems with it at all...

I'd like to hear from people who have installed it to know whether I should install this at all.

I haven't had a problem with it. My network has over 900 9x clients all with the AD Client installed without any gliches. I found it enables 9x to browse easier on the intranet and resolved some login issues. Never heard of it affecting updates and .dll's.

Go for it.

What AD client brings?
1. possibility to browse/search in AD
2. finding the closest domain controller (the one from the same site with it).
3. NTLMv2 as authentication protocol. a more secure one.
4. Password change will not require connection to a PDC. Can be done with any DC
5. DFS client, able to find DFS resources in the AD.

Item 2 and 4 I think are very important if you have your network splitted in sites. Without it, you can have the surprise that your win9x client will try to connect with a server from another site, or a PDC from whon knows were in your network.

Thanks for the posts...

Does it have any problems if Winsock 2 is installed?
What about different versions of DUN (latest is 1.3?) Any conflicts?

Would you recommend it for NT 4.0 workstation?
