I have a remote user running XP. He's connecting to our WS2003 TS. I would like to place a shortcut on his TS desktop that maps to a folder on his client machine C: drive.

I've tried opening the client C: from TS explorer, selecting the folder, and 'send to desktop' to create a shortcut. This works for the currect session. But when I log him off from TS and then he logs back in, the shortcut doesn't work. I made sure the folder is fully shared and granted all rights.

Any ideas how to accomplish this? The idea is a quick way to tranfer mail messages and other files.

OK explorer is NOT supported by Citrix. Use Iexplore, instead.

Creat a published application for this, and one of the options is to create an icon on the desktop and/or start menu. This will create an icon on his desktop(surprisingly eh!) and he can click whenever he/she/it requires.

Hi Scott,
I'm not using Citrix. Just WS2003 TS.

I've never used a published application, we just give users a full desktop. Would you mind giving me a few more details on doing this?

Thanks!

OK but this is the Citrix forum[smile]

Ok using Remote Desktop Connections instead of going to a server, you can click options and that should allow you to create a connection to a program and save it, there are lots of other stuff you can do too.

But Citrix does it much better.[wink]

I know this is a citrix forum, but I didn't see any forum's specifically for Terminal Server only. I could have posted in the 2003 forum, but I thought here there would be more people familiar with TS. And didn't want to cross post. I'll post over there to see if anyone has run across this problem.

I can connect using RDC, but the whole issue is that a shortcut to a client side folder from a TS desktop. I can create it, and it works, until the next time the user logs into TS. The shortcut is there, just can't drop onto it or open the client side folder.

Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it.

I don't get any message. It just gives the slashed circle when you drag a file or email message over the shortcut folder.

I created the folder on the client. Gave it everyone and their brother full rights. The local user has Admin rights on his computer.

In the TS session, I open My Computer, navigate to the shared folder on the client, create a desktop shortcut (on the TS desktop)

I can now drag an email from Outlook to the shortcut on the TS desktop and drop it. It will show up in the folder on the users home computer. So far so good.

I logout of the TS. Then log back in. I now can NOT drop onto that shortcut folder.

Does this workflow make sense to you? Thanks!

(The whole reason for this is at his home he a HP mutlifunction thing (fax, print, scan) I don't want to install any dodgy drivers on the TS, so for the emails he needs to print he drags them to his home computer and prints from there.)
