Does anyone have any idea whta this file is?

It shows as SHELLPAR nad has no extention.

It keeps turning up in various locations on my pc. They open with note pad and contain a file location but a different one in each occaision. I have checked MS KB but it does not show on search nor in Norton's database. Yet googling shows links to both. The links seem to suggest a virus, a trojan or a rogue dialler but none of these infections is on my pc. I've very carefully checked.

So, any ideas?

The link is for an discussion on removing the shellpar files and what is re-installing them. It'll link you to another forum that'll run you through several steps. I don't see the shellpar file mentioned anywhere, but it seems as if those that were infected with it, got cleaned up following the instructions.

Thanks for this.

I'd already seen it but it doesnt give much about where it comes from or what causes it.

I would walk through the steps that the second link is listing (at least search for the files they're listing).

It doesn't seem like anyone is listing where this is initially coming from.

A quick question, since every reference to this I can find is calling it a trojan dialer, have you run Hijack This! yet?

If not run it and take a look at the log file that is generated.

I've run Hijack this but nothing seems out of place.
