I have a W2K Pro desktop and have set my CD drive to shared with everyone having read access. Most of our network is on Win98. From some machines I can get right in and access the CD, but from some I get a message that the machine can not be found on the network. That is after clicking on it from Network Places. Not having the usual password problem that most people seem to have. All 98 machines were configured identical, (replicated) so should have all the same settings. Any help greatly appreciated.

On the machines that can not access the win2k machine, be sure that "enable file and print sharing" is checked in the network options. Sometimes this is disabled if the win98 machine is not sharing anything. This will allow the 98 machine to recieve the 2k file list.

Make sure that you have a user account setup for all the machines that need access to the drive on the Win2K machine. I have found instances when the user was setup but not the machine ID name, even users with an account could not obtain access but after the machine was setup as an account it was possible.
