Ok, this problem seem to have a logical solution but it's not...

Setup:
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Outlook 2003

Task:
Share a sub-contacts folder

Problem:
I have no problem sharing the main contacts. But when I share only the sub-contacts folder, say one level below the main contacts, Outlook can't find it on the intended user's workstation. Anybody know what am I missing?

You need to grant READ rights to the parent folder, typically.

I'm not near a machine I can test with. But that's usually the case.

Wouldn't it be easier to use public folders, AD security groups and permissions?

No, because the Contact Subfolder is only meant to be access by certain users, and the contact folder should remain under the original owner's account. Placing the folder into Public is a work around, but kinda Mickey Mouse, sorry to say.

Now I know why. Each level has to have a minimum of "folder visable" permission. Then, after following MS' precedure, you can see the shared subfolders only in Folder List mode.

Workaround? Why do you say that? Cross mailbox sharing is a workaround - public folders are designed explicitly for collaberation.

"only meant to be access by certain users" (sic). Yeah - again, that's the point.
