Hi,

I have SBS 2003 running and the workstations are running on Windows XP along with Office XP (2002). I would like to share the outlook contact with the two front desk users.

They need to open up the contact at the same time and be able to read/edit/save in the contact list.

Would like to know what steps need to be carried out to achieve the sharing of contact list?

Thanks for all your inputs.

Regards,
MJ

the best thing to do is place these Contacts in the Public Folders in your Exchange...they can share a copy only through the Public Folders, but not stand alone and not have the same one in sync.

More than one user can attach to a .pab file at a time and make changes, so instead of using the Contacts list, perhaps the solution in this case is a Personal Address Book kept on the LAN and accessable to both.

Hi Tom,

Can you pls explain the steps in more detail for both the options. I am new to exchange and would appreciate all your help.

Thanks,
MJ

the simplest thing is to use the .pab file.

This is the Personal Address Book. When you open a New e-mail mesage and click To: you can have a Global List pop up, Contacts, Personal Address Book, and more....

1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
2. Under Directory, click Add a new directory or address book, and then click Next.
3. To add the type of address book you want,

Add an additioinal address book
4. Click Additional address books.
5. Click the address book you want to add, and then click Finish. You can create a new one or Browse to an exisitng one.

Create one and Import the contents of the Contacts you wannt to Share out and it'll be in sync.

Hi Tom,

Can you pls explain on how to go about doing the setup of sharing the outlook contacts thru exchange public folder.

The pab file setup wasn't much workable for frontdesk users, they seemed to get confuse in using the personal address book option.

Thanks for all your help.

MJ

Fixtar,

What version of outlook are you using? Are you connecting to an Exchange Server? If so what version? Which outlook contact do you want to share? Can you give more detail on the type of contact you want to share. Is this contact part of a specific mailbox? Or do you need to create a contact and then share this among the dept?

Fixtar,

Disregard my last post. I think this link will give you good instruction on how to create an outlook contact in Public Folders on Exchange. You need to do this while loggeg into your outlook profile.

This should allow your users to be able to manage the contact at the same time.

Let me know how you make out.
